Trailer: Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters (2013)

Added: September 6, 2012

The trend today is to answer the question – What happened next after the fairy tales’ “and they live happily ever after.” Now, everyone is busy brain storming on how they will change the fairy tale stories we grew up with. They have done that with Snow White and the Huntsman (2012), with Little Red Riding Hood in Red Riding Hood (2011) and the TV series Once Upon Time which is really intriguing to me on how these fairy tale characters go to the present world. And to add more spice to the adaptation, it is kind of a requirement that it will go darker and more actions should happen.

Next year, there is another fairy tale that will go to this trend, Hansel And Gretel. To qualify as dark fantasy, they focused on “witch hunting” which is basically the reason why the siblings became famous for – outwitting the witch who wants to eat them. Yes, cannibalism is popular during their time. But the most interesting part is the cast – the ever valiant and skilled Jeremy Renner who is starting to filled our Hollywood memories with his fighting and shooting skills and the English actress who is starting to make her own name as a kick-ass leading lady, Gemma Arterton.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters takes place 15 years after that one fateful night at the gingerbread house, with Hansel (Renner) and Gretel (Arterton) all grown up, slaying witches ever since. Sounds like Abraham Lincoln’s quest as a vampire hunter.

Its Jeremy Renner’s era I guess. We’ve been seeing him more often in big screen, either opposite a huge Hollywood star in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, part of famous ensemble in The Avengers or leading a popular movie franchise, The Bourne Legacy. He has definitely striking his iron and it’s a hot iron!

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters will be released on 11th of January 2013, which shares with the new release date of Ruben Fleischer’s LAPD drama Gangster Squad with Josh Brolin, Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. Who’s gonna be the man you’re rooting for – Jeremy Renner or Ryan Goslilng? I’ll go for Gosling all the time!

Watch Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters trailer as Renner and Arterton kick into action, alongside Famke Janssen, Thomas Mann and Peter Stormare.
