Many adaptations of L. Frank Baum’s ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ have been made, but nothing can ever seem to top the 1939′s ‘Wizard of Oz’ with miss Judy Garland. The film was a production masterpiece. The movie featured an unforgettable soundtrack, state of the art visual effects, and it was also one of the very first movies to be filmed in technicolor. The 1939 movie adaptation was a critical success and is now considered one of the greatest films ever made. There have been a few more adaptations that hoped to equal the 1939 Oz adaptation. In 1985, Walt Disney Pictures created an unofficial sequel, ‘The Return to Oz’ to the 1939 adaptation but the film turned out to be a big commercial failure.
A few decades since Disney’s last attempt, the company is finally releasing ‘Oz the Great and Powerful.’ Directed by Sam Raimi, ‘Oz the Great and Powerful‘ is considered a prequel to ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ and its movie adaptation, ‘The Wizard of Oz’. James Franco plays the role of Oscar Diggs, the wizard of Oz, while Mila Kunis and Rachael Weiz play as the evil witches that reside in the land of Oz. The movie looks promising. It has a great cast, and the visual effects seem decent, but it is too early to tell if this adaptation is going to leave a good mark among The Wizard of Oz fans. The movie will be released on March 8, 2013, and until then, everyone is curious about how this movie will turn out to be.
