We normally knew George Washington, Abraham Lincoln or Theodore Roosevelt as those who were considered few of the most influential politicians in American history. Kinda rare I guess that we heard a Spaniards to be called as such. But this is an exception for Simon Bolivar. He is a Venezuelan military and political leader who played a key role in Hispanic America’s successful struggle for independence from the Spanish Empire.
Alberto Arvelo Mendoza became interested to check out the life of the brave politician and do a biopic that will inspire everyone. He chose the Venezuelan actor Édgar Ramírez to play Bolivar. Perhaps his name sounds familiar because we saw him on few Hollywood movies like Wrath of the Titans, The Bourne Ultimatum and Vantage Point. But, he became well known when he played Carlos in the 2010 French-German biopic series Carlos, a role for which he won the César Award for Most Promising Actor at the César Awards 2011. It seems that Édgar Ramírez is a common choice for biopics.
Libertador is another biopic that Ramírez will play – an influential diplomat, who was a driving force behind Latin America’s fight for independence against Spain. WGM Films has released the first photo featuring the actor in character, as he braves the winter elements. He looks like Lord Snow of The Game of Thrones, isn’t it?
Some Latin artists will join Ramírez to this film; María Valverde, Iwan Rheon, Danny Huston, Gary Lewis, Juana Acosta, Steve Wilcox, Imanol Arias.
Libertador will be released in 2013
